It is important to note that the card is NOT insurance.  Some discounts are greater than 20 percent and some are less, the discount depends on the drug and quantity being purchased.  Resident cardholders can also save on pet prescriptions too.  More than 57,000 pharmacies nationwide accept the card.

Steel Magnolias: The Beautiful Classic to Open at the Rosewater Theatre

May 21, 2008

The Rosewater Theatre proudly presents the beautiful comedic drama “Steel Magnolias”, which premiers June 6 at their new Roswell location.

“Steel Magnolias” is the wonderful classic story written by Robert Harling who is an American writer and film director. Harling was an aspiring actor when the tragic death of his diabetic sister inspired him to write the play “Steel Magnolias”. As his best friend and closest sibling, Robert found it incredibly difficult to cope with his loss. He was advised by many of his friends to write about his feelings as a coping method. It began as a short story and evolved into a full length play due to the complexity of the relationships and emotions that existed within the characters. Harling felt it important to include the way the characters utilized humor and light hearted conversations to assist them in coping with the seriousness of the underlying situations. He went on to adapt the screenplay for the film version of the play which was produced in 1989 starring Sally Field and Julia Roberts. He played a small role in the film as a minister.

Following the premier, performances are slated for every Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m., through June 28. “Steel Magnolias is such a wonderful and poignant story that we have wanted to produce for so long and now we have the opportunity”, said Sherouse Riley, Managing Director and co-owner of The Rosewater Theatre. “It is an extremely popular play that patrons just seem to love and the fact that it is based on a true story makes it all the more poignant.”

The action is set in Truvy’s beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager new assistant, Annelle, the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town’s rich curmudgeon, Ouiser; an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, who has a raging sweet tooth; and the local social leader, M’Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby, is about to marry a “good ole boy.” Filled with hilarious repartee and not a few acerbic but humorously revealing verbal collisions, the play moves toward tragedy when, in the second act, the spunky Shelby (who is a diabetic) risks pregnancy and forfeits her life. The sudden realization of their mortality affects the others, but also draws on the underlying strength—and love—which give the play, and its characters, the special quality to make them truly touching, funny and marvelously amiable company in good times and bad.

The production stars a superb ensemble of Metro Atlanta based professional and seasoned actors including Giselle Frame, Erin Greenway, Linda Thompson, Kim Burdges, Julie Rhinehart and Donna Alred. “What an absolute pleasure it has been working with these six extremely talented and professional quality actors,” states Lisa Sherouse Riley, who is also the Director of Steel Magnolias.

Tickets for “Steel Magnolias” are $16 and $18. All seats are general admission. Group rates are also available. Tickets can be purchased at The Rosewater Theatre, or online at www.rosewatertheatre.com or by calling ahead to The Rosewater Theatre Box Office at 770-640-5500. The Rosewater Theatre, located at 633 Holcomb Bridge Road is easily accessible from Georgia 400. Parking is free. For more information go to www.rosewatertheatre.com.

Roswell’s Centennial High Rated in Top 5% Nationally for All Public Schools

May 21, 2008

All residents in Roswell should be proud of the accomplishments of the Roswell public school system.  Whether you have kids in school or not, this accomplishment is great news.  The quality of local schools impacts home values, and an accomplishment like this only improves the home value.

Newsweek’s list of the top public high schools ranks Centennial High School as number 272 in the entire country!  It is the highest ranking of any North Fulton School!  The rating measures the number of Advanced Placement Tests (as well as IB and Cambridge tests) taken by all students at a school in 2007 divided by the number of graduating seniors.  Centennial High School is in the top 5% of all public schools measured this way.

Other honorable mentions:
Roswell High School was ranked 529, Chattahoochee High School was ranked 530, Riverwood High School was ranked 301, Milton High School was ranked 325, and Northview High School was ranked 347.

Humans Aren’t the Only Victims of Foreclosure

May 20, 2008

The month of May saw more than 7,000 courthouse auctions. Homeowners, builders, developers and commercial property owners have stopped making payments and as a result lenders are repossessing them. This creates great opportunity for investors and landlords alike. However, there isn’t opportunity for all. The victims of foreclosures are not just humans, many family pets are being left behind.

The high rate of home foreclosures throughout the Atlanta area is having an impact on local animal shelters as they are seeing a disturbing trend develop. These people losing their homes are moving in with relatives or rental places and they aren’t always able to bring their pets with them. Many pet owners faced with foreclosure call local animal shelters, however not all pets are this lucky.

Meet Lexus. Lexus is an Australian Shepherd dog that was left behind when her owners were foreclosed upon. She is presently being fostered by a Keller Williams agent in our office, however it will not work as a permanent home. Lexus gets along great with kids and other dogs, but unfortunately not with cats. She is a great dog that is very well trained and behaved and is in need of a new home.

The Future of GPS Technology in the Real Estate World

May 19, 2008

There are sites now starting to pop-up where you can download your own Points of Interest (POI’s) into your GPS unit.

Realtors could load up a GPS with specific POI’s for clients and ultimately make them available through a website where they can just download them into their own GPS.

They are also starting to come out with beta software to do GPS tours…when you drive by a POI, it starts an MP3 with info on that POI…so think about call signs IVR being replaced by a GPS recording.  What I see in the future is that every real estate listing has a POI you can download from the internet into your GPS…advertising/information is also downloaded on a voice file with that POI.

Generous Gift Given to Fellowship Christian Teacher and His Family

May 16, 2008

Roswell teacher, Joel Flores was shocked and thankful at what was inside an anonymous envelope…the keys to a 2008 Honda Ridgeline truck and a wad of cash for a year’s worth of gas.

“Thank you so much, it’s just such a blessing to us.  Words can’t express how we feel about it,” said Flores.

Flores and his wife Charlotte are both teachers.  Last year Charlotte resigned from teaching in order to stay at home with their son Elias.  The strain of only having one income forced the Flores to sell their family car and buy a used scooter for Joel Flores to get to work.

Joel teaches English at Fellowship Christian School in Roswell.  In addition he also teaches guilar lessons to provide extra income for their family.  He also helps with the music program at school and coaches softball.

What does it feel like to receive such a gift?  Joel said he, “almost passed out.”  The note in the envelope said, “Joel, words cannot express how thankful we are to God for brining you into the lives of our children.”

This act sums up the community of roswell that is comprised of great neighbors, schools and their teachers, and the many other wonderful residents.  When you buy a home in Roswell you aren’t just buying a house, you are gaining membership into a community full of great people.

Roswell Home in Sentinel on the River Subdivision Raided for Sales of HGH, Testosterone, and Copy-Cat Cialis

May 14, 2008

When my roommate got home yesterday, he mentioned that he saw at least fifteen police squad cars pull into Sentinel on the River subdivision and saw a helicopter hovering above.

As it turns out, a married couple living in Sentinel on the River in a $700,000 home on Sentinae Chase had been producing human growth hormone (HGH), testosterone, copy-cat versions of Cialis and selling it on the internet. Authorities had been investigating the couple for the past three months. Investigators say the house was setup like a drug manufacturing assembly line, actually putting the chemicals together. The couple sold $25,000-$30,000 a day, making more than $100,000 a week selling the drugs over the internet all over the country. It is believed the couple had been producing the drugs for years, however it wasn’t until recently when authorities received a tip that they began investigating.

The home and everything in it was seized by Food and Drug Administration Investigators, but the couple who have not yet been arrested were free to leave on their own which has several neighbors angered.

The home isn’t far from the office so I decided to take a little field trip to see what kind of pictures I could obtain. If it weren’t for the Channel 5 News van and photographer out front I would’ve missed the house. The house looked just like any other house on this upscale street, the garbage was out front, a u-Haul trailer and silver Dodge Charger in the driveway…no police tape anywhere. I actually caught a glimpse of a couple exiting the Charge, however was unable to obtain a picture.

According to reports the couple were not arrested yesterday…is the couple the two individuals I saw exiting the Charger? Is the u-Haul being packed as we speak to prepare for their flight from this country? I would think that a couple earning $25,000-$30,000 dollars a day would be a HUGE flight risk, but there didn’t seem to be much commotion around the property during my photo shoot. One neighbor was outside gardening with her two golden retrievers…just another day on the block I guess.

I was able to lookup the house to see pictures from when the house previously sold. The description from the listing agent was, “ELEGANT ALL BRICK WITH GORGEOUS POOL AND SPA. DESIGNER ARCHITECTURAL DETAILS THRU-OUT. SPIRAL FLOATING STAIRCASE, 2 STORY GRANDRM W/ WALL OF WINDOWS. FORMAL DR. BEAU FIRESIDE MAST MAIN. GOURMET KIT W/POOL VIEWS.”

Below are two images from the listing:

It is shocking that such an operation could have been conducted inside of such an elegant house!

Further investigation led me to uncover the current owner’s name and online records tying her to an Anabolic Steroids, Bodybuilding Discussion Forum, ads for glass and plastics, labeling and encapsulating machinery, as well as what appears to be the company’s website. If the drugs this couple were distributing are indeed illegal, they sure left a pretty sticky trail on the internet!
