Nunsense the Musical: The Little Sisters of Hoboken are Coming to Town

March 27, 2008 · Print This Article

The Rosewater Theatre proudly presents the wonderful smash hit Broadway musical Nunsense, which premiers May 2 at their new location in Roswell.

“Nunsense” is a thoroughly entertaining musical comedy by Dan Goggin and is certainly not to be missed. Following the premier, performances are slated for every Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 3:00 p.m., through May 24.

Nunsense is a hilarious talent show staged by the five survivors of the Little Sisters of Hoboken nunnery, the rest of the sisters having died from eating vichyssoise soup prepared by their cook, Sister Julia, Child of God. The remaining nuns parade their talents at a variety show staged to raise funds so that the last four of the dearly departed can be buried. The score pulses with merriment and unabashed desire to make you laugh with songs so spontaneous and comic interludes paced at break-neck speed. It may sound like a rather morbid premise but the result is an uplifting, heavenly wee slice of musical comedy. Nunsense offers a cornucopia of hilarity for the whole family, proving conclusively that NUN rhymes with FUN!

“We are excited to be bringing this phenomenal musical to the Roswell area,” states G. Scott Riley, Artistic Director of The Rosewater Theatre. “Although we have performed many shows and musicals at the Cumming Playhouse we are thrilled to now be able to bring the same professional quality productions to the Roswell area,” Riley adds.

The production stars a superb ensemble of local and surrounding area professional and seasoned actors including Cheryl Rogers, Kathy Russell, Maryia Hare, Rebekah Williams and Karen Walsh. “What an absolute pleasure it has been working with these five extremely talented and professional actors,” states Lisa Sherouse Riley, Director and Choreographer of Nunsense and Managing Director of The Rosewater Theatre. “They are all fantastic at their roles and it’s hard to believe that they are not really nuns sometimes,” adds Riley. “This is definitely one of my favorite musicals and I am so pleased that I got to work once again with one of the best Musical Directors I have ever had the pleasure to work with, Bob Russell.”
